maverick assaulters belt

Maverick Assaulters Belt - Originally featured back at the 2013 shooting show earlier this year, I finally got my hands on one of these Maverick 5.11 Assault Belts and it was everything I hoped it would be. There are a lot of great Cobra-based belts out there, but it's the attention to the little design details that really makes Maverick shine.

For starters, the big show is definitely the Cobra buckle, which is a terrific buckle; looks slick, fast/easy to use, and climbing value. One downside though is that most people want about 1.75" wide for the rigger/gun belt and the 1.75" Cobra buckle that fits usually doesn't go through the pants hole which is so good. As a result, someone has to break a belt every time they want to remove a belt from their pants (Hey, we all have to wash our pants eventually). It's not the end of the world, but it's an inconvenience compared to traditional belts. To solve that problem, Maverick has a main webbing that is still 1.75" wide with a female fitting Cobra side, while on the other side the belt tapers at the very end to a 1" male using interchangeable Cobra parts. These 1” males are much more manageable to push through belt loops while still having heavy duty durability.

Another trouser loop conflict seen with rigger belts is that they usually use big butt metal v-rings. Wanting to retain the clip capabilities of a backup carbine, the Maverick has a web loop that maintains functionality while reducing a lot of weight. You still need to put some pressure on the clip loops to get the pant loops through more easily, but it's a lot easier than dealing with bulky metal hardware. Once installed, the loop is pretty good as it stays stiff enough to not collapse while generally not sticking out.

The 12 Best Tactical Belts

I'm not sure how they do it, but a big plus is the shape of the fabric, which forms an ergonomically curved belt, so that it follows the contours of the body correctly. It not only looks better when bending or sitting, but more importantly is comfortable for long-term wear. The finish of the Maverick 2-stage mature foundation is good stiffness for general tactical use. Stiff enough to mount a pistol platform while offering support flexible enough to keep up the ergo comfort factor. Complementing the attention to detail, the Velcro used to ensure the adjustment is relaxed is a quieter version that still maintains a firm grip. Of course, most people wouldn't adjust their pants in the middle of a covert OP, but such a plus feature is still appreciated.

As one might guess, the Maverick Assaulter Belt isn't cheap, but you definitely get what you pay for, as it includes every valuable feature currently implemented in modern Cobra belt designs. The design really stands out by hitting all the key points of ease of use, comfort and durability. They even come with a hanger that connects with a Cobra buckle to add tons of cool details. Currently available in Black and Gray in sizes S to 4XL.
